Using Layers
Using layers adds an extra dimension to your image creation. They are very easy to use...
- Think of layers as sheets of transparent glass, stacked one on top of the other. Where there is no image (or pixels) on a layer you can see through to the layers below. The composition changes depending on how you stack and position the layers.
- Layers are FUN, all very easy ... when you know how!
Layers - example 1 (create your own advert)
|
Here is a practical example of using layers to create my advert for the local magazine.
On top of the main image (which was resized to fit the advert size) there are quite a few layers of text and shapes using different layer styles, blending modes and different coloured text.

Layers - example 2 (make your own business cards)
|
Another practical example of layers and text to create one of my selection of business cards.
I resized 9 different images to fit onto an A4 sheet of good quality, thick paper, then used a trimmer to cut them out. I couldn't decide which image to use so I used 9 different ones on the A4 page

Layers - example 3 (a simple collage)

- With the freehand lasso tool I made a rough selection from each of the images above, feathered the selections to give me a nice soft edge then pasted them onto a blank canvas.
- I then adjusted the levels to deliberately 'blow out' the whites
- really boosted the saturation
- then added some warped text

Layers - example 4 (another collage)
|
9 different images, cropped to an exact size then placed precisely onto a blank canvas using grid lines.
The bevel and emboss layer style was used on each layer

Layers - example 5 (leaflet for a new business)
|
A leaflet I created for a new business. The photos were all taken by me on location.
Selections made from several different images and placed onto a main background image.
